Important message for parents – Group A Streptococcal Infection

14/12/2022

It is common for children to be unwell in the winter. There is currently an increase in Strep A infections that may need antibiotics.

In most cases, your child will have a virus which their immune system can fight without needing antibiotics.  Please see the link below which shows typical features of Strep A and when to seek help:https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/strep-a/

Enhanced Access Hubs

Central London Healthcare CIC provides enhanced primary care services for Westminster residents. We work with local partners to improve patient care through collaborative and integrated service delivery whilst supporting general practice working.

The Enhanced Access Hubs are managed by the Federation. They enable patients to see a variety of clinicians to be seen outside of core service hours. Patients can book appointments between 18.30 and 20.00 Monday to Friday and 9:00am to 17:00pm on Saturdays. Appointments are offered at a choice of two hubs, one located in the north of the borough and one in the south. Patients can book into any hub of their choosing by speaking to their registered GP surgery or by calling the hub service when their surgery is closed. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide this service to patients who are not registered with a GP in the Westminster area.

The two locations are:

Connaught Square practice , 41 Connaught Square, St George’s Fields, London W2 2HL Weekdays 6.30pm – 8.30pm Saturdays 9am to 5pm

Pimlico Health at the Marven , 46-50 Lupus St, Pimlico, London SW1V 3EB Weekdays 6.30pm – 8.30pm Saturdays 9am to 5pm

How can patients book in?

You can do this via your registered GP practice requesting an appointment at the enhanced access hub

Online through Airmid (previously known as SystmOnline)

For enquires or to cancel your appointment after 6:30pm you can email

Connaught square hub: hcl.hclcommsenhancedaccess@nhs.net

Pimlico hub: hcl.hclenhancedaccess@nhs.net

What to do between 8pm to 8am?

In a life threatening emergency dial 999

It’s quite simple to remember, for life-threatening emergencies dial 999. Always call 999 if someone is seriously ill or injured, and their life is at risk. Examples of medical emergencies include (but are not limited to):

chest pain

difficulty in breathing

unconsciousness

severe loss of blood

severe burns or scalds

choking

fitting or concussion

drowning

severe allergic reactions.

Urgent care dial 111

111 is free and available 24 hours a day. 111 is a non-emergency service which offers urgent health care assessment and can signpost you to the most appropriate care for your condition; this could be self-care, your GP practice, your local Enhanced Access Hub a local pharmacy, walk-in centre, the emergency department or we’ll arrange for an emergency ambulance if required.

When you call 111, the first voice you will hear is one of our specially trained call assessors who will take you through a series of questions to determine how we can help. We also have a team of clinicians on hand within our control room who is able to provide additional assessment and advice, when required, over the phone. Our team of clinicians include GPs, nurses, pharmacists as well as dental and mental health nurses.

You should call NHS 111 if:

You need medical help fast but it’s not a life-threatening emergency

You don’t know who to call for medical help or you don’t have a GP to call

You think you need to go to A&E or another NHS urgent care service but are not sure which one is most appropriate or closest

You require health advice or reassurance about what to do next

You have medication enquiries

111 is also available online, https://111.nhs.uk/, if you’re not sure what to do

For less urgent health needs, you should contact your GP or local pharmacist in the usual way.

PATCHS Online consultation

New online service launching in July

We’re pleased to announce that we will be launching a new online consultation tool called PATCHS at our GP practice in July. We have selected PATCHS to take the place of our current online consultation service to improve the experience for our patients.

The new online consultation service offers a secure, simple and flexible way for patients and carers to contact their GP practice – it will not replace face to face appointments, it is in addition to routine contact with Practices. This should not be used for emergencies when you should contact 999 or visit A&E.

By registering you will have easy access to a range of services from your computer or smartphone, including:

– reporting symptoms to your GP

– booking virtual appointments

– accessing health advice

To request repeat prescriptions, you should continue to follow the current process we have in place.

You can register via the [link] on our website homepage. All you will need to do is provide an email address and set up a password.

For more information on PATCHS you can visit their website.

New online consultation service launching across north west London on XX June

GP practices across North West London are working to increase access to care and make it as convenient as possible for patients and carers. A big part of this is improving our online consultation service.

We have worked with patients and healthcare staff to select an online consultation service that is accessible and simple to use, and together we have decided on a tool called PATCHS. This has been chosen to replace our current service as part of our commitment to improving patient experience.

The new service offers a secure and confidential way for you to contact your GP practice – it will not replace face to face appointments. This does not replace face to face appointments but is in addition to routine contact with Practices. This should not be used for emergencies when you should contact 999 or visit A&E.

By registering, patients will have access a range of services, including:

– reporting symptoms to their GP

– booking virtual appointments

– accessing health advice

The service can be used by the patient, or by a carer on the patient’s behalf.

This new service can save you the hassle of travelling in or waiting for a GP appointment. It will not replace face to face appointments, it is simply an addition to them so that patients have flexibility in accessing timely care.

How to access PATCHS the new online consultation service

To access the online consultation service, you simply need to click on the link on the homepage of your GP website. You’ll be directed to the PATCHS login screen, where you will have the option to either login or register for free.

If it is your first time using the tool, you will need to register. You’ll be asked to enter your email address and set a password.

Once you’re registered, you will have access to several services, including booking a virtual appointment. All you need to do is complete a short form so that your GP can better understand and address your health needs.

Check with your GP practice if you’re unsure if PATCHS is available or how to access it. For more information on PATCHS you can visit their website.

Evening & Weekend Surgery

Your local NHS is seeking your views about the best times and locations for GP (doctor) and nurse appointments in the evenings and weekends.

Nationally the NHS has asked local practices to review the times to provide appointments at evenings and weekends. We want to capture information to support decision-making and make sure we are providing times, and locations that meet the needs of local people.

Our short survey will take no more than two minutes and your answers will help us to provide the best possible times and locations for our evening and weekend GP services.

Please complete our survey https://forms.office.com/r/Z5g9sxW1wf

(GP and nurse appointments are already available in the evening and at the weekend and can be booked by calling your GP practice or 111).

Q&A

Why are you asking people about this?

Nationally the NHS has asked groups of GP Practices (Primary Care Networks) to develop a plan for providing appointments at evenings and weekends. To inform these plans we want to make sure we are also providing times, and locations that meet the needs of local people.

What changes are you planning to make?

At this stage we really don’t know – we currently provide weekend and evening appointments from 6:30pm to 8pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 8pm on the weekends in each borough. Provided by local GPs. We want to know if these times are still right for patients?

What are the proposed national changes?

Local GPs currently offer appointments seven days of the week; the new guidance does mean that appointments don’t have to be provided on a Sunday. We are not proposing we don’t offer a service on a Sunday, but we do want to understand what local people need.

I just want to be able to see a doctor, face-to-face not on the phone?

All GP practices provide telephone and face-to-face appointments. This means we can see as many patients as possible each day. If you need to be seen face-to-face you will be invited into the surgery for a face-to-face appointment.

When will the changes happen?

Nationally the new changes to the way GP networks provide evening and weekend services will come into place in October.

Will my feedback really make a difference?

Yes, we want to ensure we are providing service times that work for local people.
